Epi-LASIK

LOTUS introduced Epilasik for the first time in South East Asia in 2004. Epi-LASIK (Epithelial Laser In Situ Keratomileusis) is an innovated procedure of Lasik to overcome the limitations of Lasik.

How is epi-LASIK done?

The treating doctor performs the flap lifting first and a laser is applied. The laser application will give you a mild burning sensation which will get over within a few hours after the procedure. The flap is replaced. A thin contact lens will be placed on your eyes for a few days to reduce your discomfort while the epithelium heals.

Who is Eligible?

  • Patients with thin corneas
  • Patients with high power
  • Patients with certain corneal diseases
  • Patients concerned about a corneal flap
  • Patients who had previous eye surgery are eligible to undergo epi-LASIK

What are the limitations of Lasik?

  • Patients with high powers can not undergo Lasik
  • Patients with Thin, Steep and Flat corneas can not be treated
  • Though rare flap handling may be risky
  • Biomechanics of cornea weakened to some extent
  • Effects of wavefront correction is reduced by induced aberration on Stormal flap

Lasik procedure consists of two steps. First making a thin hinged flap on the cornea, after lifting the flap Lasik procedure is performed on the bed of the flap. The corneal flap is repositioned after the completion of treatment. It takes 10-15 minutes for the both the eyes.

What is The Post Operative Procedure?

You will remain in our post operative section for couple of hours after the procedure. The doctor will examine your eyes and will prescribe you the post operative medicines.

You are requested to bring an attendant along with you for taking you home.
